I’ve been the legal witness at City Hall weddings when there were no other guests, but this one was a first of sorts.
Jessy and D’Art had about a half hour of downtime after their ceremony, so after giving them a bit of time to themselves, I poked my way upstairs to see if they’d let me snap a few photos in their post-ceremony high as husband and wife (which they did — see above). My assistant Andrew came up just as the officiant was also entering to get the necessary signatures to make the marriage legal. He mentioned that they needed two witnesses. Usually at this point, the bride and groom would call up their siblings or best friends or someone that they wanted to honor.
Without even a moment of hesitation, D’Art smiled broadly and said “David and Andrew!” as if it was the most obvious thing on the planet. And that is how my assistant Andrew and I got the distinguished honor of being Jessy and D’Art’s legal witnesses.
It’s not actually a surprise. That’s just who these people are.
Jessy and D’Art, thank you for being so warm and welcoming throughout this entire process. So many people mentioned balance when they spoke of you two, and it is just so perfect. You two balance each other in so many ways, and you have a pull towards each other that couldn’t be shaken by distance (clearly) and that will only continue to grow. I’m so thrilled for you two and so happy to be part of it all.
Congratulations, and enjoy this sneak peek from your wedding day!
