Theatrical Flushing Town Hall Wedding – Queens, NYC – Kellie and Marshall

“I’ve had enough of this mockery!”

It was the first time I had ever been to a wedding where somebody openly and loudly objected to what was taking place. There was a rush of adrenaline and shock when Brandon voiced his concern about Kellie and Marshall becoming husband and wife.

OK, it’s not as bad as what you’re thinking. Brandon’s interruption of Kellie and Marshall’s first dance was part of an elaborate show that was written and directed by the groom himself. Marshall is an award-winning director, writer, and composer, so it’s only fitting that their first dance had dialogue, plot twists, fight sequences, and of course some choreography as well. Not coincidentally, Kellie is a beautifully trained actor, singer, and dancer. The first dance was only one of the many theatrical highlights of the evening.

While the first dance was certainly electric, the most moving moment of the day was actually not for public consumption. Kellie and Marshall chose to read their vows to each other off microphone while some powerful music filled the ceremony space. Nobody could hear what Kellie and Marshall were saying to each other, but we could all see their emotion, and it was a beautifully intimate moment that moved many (myself included) to tears.

Kellie and Marshall, your wedding was so inventive, beautiful, and authentic to who you are. You both contribute so much to this world just by using your voices to create. And beyond all the artistic genius, you two are kind, generous, gracious humans. That’s the part that is most moving and makes me so happy about your wedding. I’m honored that you trusted me to capture your wedding day, and I couldn’t be happier for you two!!! Congratulations!!

We cannot sing the praises of David Perlman enough. Most importantly he made us feel at ease during the entire day (and really the entire planning process). You can see it in our photos how comfortable we felt around him, sharing a very intimate and special day. We’re very lucky that we choose him as we not only have amazing images (and album) from our wedding, but also a new friend. - Evan S.
